Congratulations Panthers on Defeating the Mountaineers!
Congratulations are in order for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. Yesterday, they beat the West Virginia University Mountaineers 19-15, coming back from a 15-7 deficit. For the second year in a row, Pitt has won the Backyard Brawl. This year, WVU is not as disappointed, since they were not in contention for a national title.
The loss of this game means that WVU no longer has a chance at winning the Big East. Had they won yesterday, their fate would have been decided today in a game between Cincinnati and Syracuse. Winning the Pitt vs. WVU game means that the Panthers have a chance of going to the Sun Bowl. To go, they will need to beat Connecticut on December 6th.
For the first time since 2001, neither Pitt or WVU were ranked going into this game.
